Mothering, Habitus and Habitat: The Role of Mothering as Moral Geography for the Inequality Impasse in Urban Education

Abstract Following Bourdieu, residential location as habitat may provide spatial profit when it matches with a habitus – but how? How can we conceptualize situations of mismatch between and habitus, what they mean for urban inequalities? This article explores this topic through the lens mothering practices in elementary schools. Qualitative interviews two neighbourhoods Berlin, Germany, suggest how moral geographies at intersections class race/ethnicity structure parents' opportunities to organize resources children their specific contexts. It argues that help us see not just that, are related. Empirically, suggests which these schools embedded reinforce exclusionary consequences institutional practices. I theorize sites vis‐à‐vis class‐based state logics institutions contribute an impasse educational inequality.
